Essential Oils In Our Home

Caitlin Neal 034

I wasn’t so sure about essential oils but I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. I started with the Young Living Premium Starter Kit which includes 11 essential oils (Joy, Thieves, Purification, PanAway, Frankincense, Valor, Lavender, Lemon, Peace & Calming, Stress Away, and Peppermint), Home Diffuser, samples of a couple of other great products, and a ton of info on how and where to apply each oil and the different ways each can be used. Right now, I’m just trying to learn as much as I can on what the oils can be used for and how, the introductory class that I went to at the beginning of the month really helped – I learned all about the company and a lot of their products. My favorite oils right now are Thieves (Justin loves this one too), Peace & Calming, and Purification and I am totally obsessed with the home diffuser, it is always going in our house – usually with one of my favorite oils.

Here are a couple of ways I’ve been using my oils:

Thieves: Justin has really terrible allergies and in addition to less dairy {which has helped TREMENDOUSLY} I’ve been using Theives as a household cleaner for everything from our counter tops to the floors – rather than the cleaners with harsh chemicals. I use a couple drops of Thieves in every load of laundry, too.

Lavender: I’m using a drop or two of lavender with witch hazel on a cotton ball as an astringent after I clean my face.

Lemon/Orange: About once a week I put ice and lemon or orange in our disposal and turn it on to clean it out, I also put a couple drops on a cotton ball and drop it down into the bottom of the trash can to keep it smelling fresh. I’ve loved putting a couple drops of either with fresh lemon or orange in my water. It’s is a fun, different way to drink water, too!

Purification: This one may be my favorite to diffuse with all the windows in the house open while I’m cleaning. It purifies the air and smells so good!

PanAway: I gave a couple drops to my co-worker who had a tension headache to put on her temples, she came back to me an hour later saying that the tension in her head had completely subsided. (She’s now ordering some ;)). I put some on Justin’s sore shoulder, too. {You’re supposed to use a carrier oil to dilute it such as coconut oil}.

Another thing that I have been super aware of since I started YL is the amount of toxins and chemicals in everything that we put in to our body {by way of eating, drinking, and inhaling}. I never knew how many toxins we put in to our bodies on a day-to-day basis with things as simple as a plastic water bottle (read this). We’re making small, inexpensive changes like switching from plastic to glass water bottles, shaving cream to coconut oil, processed milk/fruits/veggies to raw locally grown, allergy medication to local honey, and chemical cleaners to Thieves. Another huge plus: we save money in the long run making the switch. Overall, I just love being more mindful of what is going in to my body. We’re traveling a lot over the next couple of months, so I’m interested to see how its going to work. Over the next month I’m going to be switching out some of my beauty products {this one makes me nervous} and I’d like to start using more of the Thieves line – YL offers hand soaps, sanitizer, and tooth paste so I’ll keep you posted as to how that all goes!

  1. Love this!! I too switched beauty products last month 😁 still trying to find what I like best. But I switched foundation, mascara, nail polish, body lotion, and deodorant. I’m going to get the Young Living face set next! Are you still loving the face wash? And, we’re slowly switching to glass too! 🙂
Oh and I love your idea for the garage disposal and trash can!

    • I love the face wash, it definitely has to be paired with a good moisturizer though because it kinda dries me out. Ooo, I’d love to hear what you’ve switched over too. I feel like finding all new products that I love is going to be a quite the task!!
